Garden room electrics are one of the areas where quotes can look nearly identical for what seems like the same building, so it pays to know what should be included as standard before you compare prices.
What Standard Garden Room Electrics Include
Every room we build gets its own dedicated electrics circuit, properly wired and certified, rather than running off an extension lead from the house. As standard, garden room electrics from us cover sockets, lighting, and a consumer unit sized correctly for the room.
That’s the baseline for any space you actually intend to use, whether it’s a home office, a gym or a studio. Anything less than a dedicated circuit is really only suitable for a shed, not a room you plan to spend time in.
We install to current wiring regulations and hand over certification once the work’s done, so you’ve got a proper paper trail for your own records and for any future sale of the property.
Heating as Part of the Electrics
Heating usually gets specified alongside the electrics, most commonly an electric panel heater sized for the room. Because the room is fully insulated, a fairly small heater is enough to keep it comfortable through winter, which keeps running costs sensible.
We size the heating output to the room at the quote stage rather than fitting a generic unit, since an undersized heater in a well built room is a common complaint we hear about from other builders’ customers.
This is why garden room electrics and insulation need thinking about together, not as separate line items on a quote.
Common Extras
Beyond the standard package, a few additions come up often enough to be worth planning for from the start rather than bolting on later. Ethernet cabling is a common one for home offices, especially where WiFi from the house doesn’t reach reliably.
We fitted Cat6 ethernet as part of a recent Raby Mere home office build for exactly that reason, on top of the standard electrics package. Extra sockets, USB points, additional lighting circuits, or provision for air conditioning are the other requests we see most.
None of these need deciding on the spot. We run through the options at the quote stage so you can budget properly before the build starts.
Getting It Right From the Start
None of this needs to be guesswork. We go through the electrics specification properly at the quote stage, so you know exactly what’s standard and what’s an extra before the job starts, not after.
That avoids the common problem of someone discovering halfway through a build that something they assumed was included is actually a separate cost. A clear spec upfront protects both sides.
Planning a garden office or studio and want to talk through what electrics setup makes sense for how you’ll use the room? Get in touch and we’ll walk you through it.
Certification and Peace of Mind
A proper garden room electrics job is more than just working sockets. Every installation gets certified once complete, which matters for your own peace of mind and for any future buyer if you come to sell.
That certification is part of what separates a professionally installed setup from a DIY extension lead job, even if both technically get power into the room.
We keep a copy of all certification on file and can hand it straight to you once the electrical work’s signed off.
Getting garden room electrics specified correctly from day one is one of the simplest ways to avoid unexpected costs further into the build. We’re always happy to run through the options before you commit.
